![]() ![]() The music here is deliciously dark and otherworldly – with discordant drones and eerie soundscapes skillfully combined to create the perfect audio nightmare. Lovecraft: "The Call of Cthulhu" creditsįollowing on from the awesome Yog-Sothoth album which was released last April, The Great Old Ones (aka Raffaele Pezzella / Sonologyst) is back with his second release of Lovecraftian horror. When, after infinities of chaos, the first men came, the Great Old Ones spoke to the sensitive among them by moulding their dreams for only thus could Their language reach the fleshly minds of mammals. They knew all that was occurring in the universe, but Their mode of speech was transmitted thought. The spells that preserved Them intact likewise prevented Them from making an initial move, and They could only lie awake in the dark and think whilst uncounted millions of years rolled by. But at that time some force from outside must serve to liberate Their bodies. They all lay in stone houses in Their great city of R’lyeh, preserved by the spells of mighty Cthulhu for a glorious resurrection when the stars and the earth might once more be ready for Them. But although They no longer lived, They would never really die. When the stars were right, They could plunge from world to world through the sky but when the stars were wrong, They could not live. They had shape-for did not this star-fashioned image prove it? - but that shape was not made of matter. These Great Old Ones, Castro continued, were not composed altogether of flesh and blood. When conditions are right, the city will rise, and, with the help of the eternal Cthulhu cult, Cthulhu will awaken and again rule the world. These groups had statues of Cthulhu that seemed to be made of materials not found on Earth and chanted the phrase “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn” (“In his house at R’lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming”). They communicated with humans by telepathy, and, in hidden corners of the world, uncivilized people remembered and worshipped Cthulhu in rites described as loathsome. The Old Ones went dormant, and their city slipped under Earth’s crust beneath the Pacific Ocean. Cthulhu is the priest or leader of the Old Ones, a species that came to Earth from the stars before human life arose.
